Government allowed export of white onion from three ports of the country

New Delhi, April 25 (Hindustan Reporter) The Central Government has relaxed the ban on export of onion. The government has given permission to export 2 thousand metric tons (MT) of white onion from three ports of the country.

Export of up to 2,000 tonnes of white onion has been permitted through three designated ports with immediate effect, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification issued on Thursday. According to the notification, export of onion is allowed from Mundra port, Pipavav port and Nhava Sheva/JNPT port.

According to the DGFT notification, the exporter will have to obtain a certificate from the Horticulture Commissioner of Gujarat Government regarding the content and quantity of white onion to be exported. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade is a unit of the Ministry of Commerce. It sets norms related to import and export.

It is noteworthy that to control the prices of onion, a politically sensitive commodity, there is currently a ban on its export. However, the Government has permitted the export of specified quantities to the Allies at their request. On December 8 last year, the government had imposed a ban on export of onion to increase domestic availability and keep prices under control, which has recently been extended till further orders.
