Washington: Entrepreneur and pilot Gopi Thotakura will be the first Indian to travel to space. They will travel to space as tourists on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin NS-25 mission. He will be one of the 6 astronauts going on this mission. With this, he will be the first Indian space tourist and the second Indian to go to space after Indian Army Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma in 1984. The aerospace company said that the date of going into space has not been announced yet.
This will be the 7th manned space flight for the 'New Shepard' program and the 25th in its history. So far, the program has flown 31 humans above the Kármán Line, the conventional line proposed between Earth's atmosphere and space. 'New Shepard' is a fully reusable sub-orbital launch vehicle developed by Blue Origin for space tourism.
Gopi is a pilot and pilot who learned flying before driving. He is the co-founder of Preserve Life Corporation, a global center for holistic wellness and behavioral health located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. In addition to flying airplanes commercially, he has also flown aerobatic aircraft and seaplanes as well as hot air balloons. He has also served as an international medical aircraft pilot.
