UGC New Admission Rules: There is good news for the students taking admission in the university. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced new rules for awarding undergraduate and postgraduate (PG) degrees from December 5. Under which now students will be able to take admission twice a year. Students will now get a chance to take admission in July-August and January-February.

Option to choose time limit also

According to the new rules, students will be able to do courses in regular, learning and distance mode. Apart from this, there will also be an option to complete both the courses in less or more time. Universities and colleges will have to allow EDP (Access Duration Programme) and ADP (Accelerated Duration Programme) students up to 10 per cent of their total capacity. Under ADP you have to study one semester less, whereas under EDP you can complete the course by extending two semesters.

Ease of study for students

The purpose of this decision of UGC is to increase the enrollment of students. If the same student is doing two different UG and PG courses then both his degrees will be considered valid. 12th pass students can take admission in UG and PG of any course in the national level entrance examination. In this regard, UGC Chairman Jagdish Kumar said that with this attitude of the university, students will be able to study easily. Also, re-admission can be obtained after leaving studies at any level. Apart from this, credit of vocational and skill courses will also be included in the credit of degree course.

Admission can be taken after passing the entrance examination

If there is a provision for entrance examination for taking admission in any course then the student will compulsorily have to appear in that entrance examination. This biennial entry facility is designed to be implemented. Its objective is to admit students twice a year. So that they can complete their studies easily.

Multiple entry-exit option

These proposed changes include important provisions. This includes multiple entry and exit options, recognition prior to education and simultaneous admission to UG-PG programmes. Feedback on these draft UGC guidelines has been invited from all concerned by December 23, 2024. Then the final decision will be taken.
