Good news for Kejriwal despite AAP's big defeat in Delhi, a big blow for Congress

Once again, BJP continued its 'supra clean' campaign in Delhi and captured all the seven seats. Aam Aadmi Party, which has been running the government with a huge majority in Delhi for a decade, failed to open its account this time too. Despite forming an alliance with its arch rival Congress, it did not succeed. On one hand, the party is embroiled in the alleged liquor scam and on the other hand, it has also faced defeat. However, amidst the clouds of disappointment, there is also some good news for the party and its chief Arvind Kejriwal.

After the arrest of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor scam and his subsequent 21-day bail, the party failed to open its account in the elections but managed to increase its support in the Lok Sabha elections. The party's vote share increased by 6 per cent. During the interim bail, Kejriwal managed to push the AAP to the second position with his aggressive campaigning in Delhi. After 10 years, the party has got less votes than the BJP but more than the Congress.

According to the Election Commission, the vote share figures released after the results were declared on Tuesday are mostly good news for the Aam Aadmi Party and a little disappointing for the BJP. Along with this, Congress has suffered a major setback. BJP has got 54.35 percent votes, whereas in 2019 the party got 56.9 percent votes.

This time 24.17 percent of the voters supported the Aam Aadmi Party, whereas in 2019 the party was reduced to 18.1 percent vote share. This was a big setback for AAP which got 32.90 percent votes in 2014. However, despite all the difficulties, this time the party not only managed to increase its vote share but also remained at the second position. Meanwhile, there is a disappointing news for Congress. While the party alone had 22.5 percent vote share in 2019, it suffered losses after the alliance with Aam Aadmi Party. This time Congress got only 18.91 percent votes. The party has slipped to the third position.
