There is great news for passengers traveling on highways or expressways. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has put on hold its decision to increase toll tax rates from April 1. This is a temporary stop. Now the rates which were going to increase from 12 midnight on 1st April, will not increase. This means that all vehicles will have to pay the same toll as before.
Earlier there were reports that National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is going to increase toll rates from April 1. However, NHAI has just given relief. NHAI has decided not to increase toll rates on highways and expressways. Toll tax will have to be paid only at the current rates applicable for the financial year 2023-24.
Actually, a letter was issued by NHAI late on Sunday night. It was told that the decision to increase toll from April 1 has been postponed for now. Till further orders, vehicle owners will continue to pay toll as before. It was told that NHAI has taken this decision in view of the Election Code applicable in the country. However, nothing has been said by NHAI officials in this regard.
Let us tell you that recently there were reports that toll rates on highways and expressways may be increased from April 1 in the new financial year. Toll on all highways and expressways is likely to increase by Rs 40 to Rs 50. However it closed on Sunday. NHAI will not increase the rates at present. NHAI implements revised rates of toll tax every year at its toll plazas. This includes the inflation rate as well as the cost of repairing highways, widening highways and constructing new highways.
