With an aim to increase women's participation in the workforce, the central government will soon launch a scheme to train girls aged 14 to 18 for non-traditional jobs. Women and Child Development Ministry Secretary Anil Malik said that in the initial phase, the scheme will be launched in 27 districts in the next two to three weeks. He said, “The scheme is being launched in 27 districts in the initial phase and will eventually be expanded to 218 districts across the country.”
A non-traditional occupation is generally defined as a specific role in which male or female participation is less than 25 percent. Under the 'Special Project Launched for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls and Women', girls aged 14 to 18 years will be trained near their schools and homes while continuing their education.
It will start from 27 districts
The secretary said the scheme will be launched in two to three weeks at the initial stage, under which training will be provided in digital skills, digital marketing and personality development as well as for non-traditional jobs. He said the programme will ultimately increase women's participation in the workforce.
Malik said, “We have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.” Under this, adolescent girls in the age group of 14-18 years will be trained for non-traditional roles in 27 districts across the country and later in 218 districts through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, training partners from public education institutions and government organisations.
He said this while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop organised to sensitise officials of both ministries about the scheme. The secretary said the programme will ultimately increase women's participation in the labour force. He said it will soon be launched at the highest level of the government.
