The direct impact of ongoing geopolitical tensions and international turmoil across the world is once again visible on the bullion market. After one day of stability, today i.e. on June 3, 2026, a decline in the prices of both gold and silver has been recorded. While on one hand there is pressure on gold due to global reasons, on the other hand the uncertainty regarding industrial demand has also reduced the shine of silver.
In the retail market of the capital Delhi today, a slight decline of ₹ 10 per 10 grams has been seen in the prices of both 24 carat and 22 carat gold. Earlier on June 1, there was a big relief in gold prices, when 24 carat gold became cheaper by ₹ 820 and 22 carat gold by ₹ 750 per 10 grams.
Government’s big decision on silver import
Amidst these fluctuations in prices, the Central Government has taken a very important step regarding the silver market. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has made the rules related to import of silver more stringent than before.
According to the new notification, now it will be mandatory for traders to take special approval from DGFT to order silver through certain selected routes.
On which things will this rule apply?
This strict rule will apply to the import of silver of 99.9% or more purity. The thing to note is that along with normal silver, it also includes the silver on which a layer of gold or platinum is plated. The direct objective of this step of the government is to control the uncontrolled import of silver in the country.
