Veteran goalkeeper and former hockey captain PR Sreejesh said that the Paris Olympics will be his last international tournament. This will be the fourth Olympics for Sreejesh, who has played 328 matches for India. 36-year-old Sreejesh, who has been a part of many Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World Cups, played an important role in India's bronze medal win at the Tokyo Olympics with his brilliant goalkeeping.
Hockey India has launched the Win It For Sreejesh campaign for the national team which will inspire the players to stand on the podium again. Sreejesh, who made his debut in 2010, was a member of the team that won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games and the bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games. He was part of the joint-winning team of the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy, the gold medal-winning team at the 2019 FIH Men's Series Finals in Bhubaneswar and the silver medal-winning team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Sreejesh was awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021 and is only the second athlete from India to win the World Games Athlete of the Year 2021 award. He won the FIH Goalkeeper of the Year award twice in a row in 2021 and 2022. Last year, on the basis of its excellent performance in the Asian Games in 2023, the Indian team was successful in qualifying for the Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal. Sreejesh said that I am preparing for my last tournament in Paris. I am proud to move forward with my career and hopes. I will always be grateful for the support of my family, teammates, all coaches, supporters and Hockey India.
