Gopeshwar, 07 December (Hindustan Reporter). The three-day Amar Shaheed Sainik Mela, organized to salute the bravery of martyred soldiers in military ground Sawad, started with much fanfare on Saturday. Inaugurating the fair, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni paid tribute to the martyrs and announced a fund of Rs 10 lakh for the construction of a Sainik Museum in the village. On this special occasion, he greeted the people of the area and remembered the contribution of the soldiers of Sawad.
MP Baluni paid tribute to the immortal martyrs of Veer Bhoomi by laying a wreath at the Martyr Memorial in Sawad. During this, he appreciated the fair organized in the memory of martyred soldiers and said that this fair will never let us forget the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers.
MP Baluni announced a fund of Rs 10 lakh for the Sainik Museum in Sawad. He said that this museum will be an important step to cherish the glory of bravery and martyrdom of the soldiers.” Apart from this, the MP also said that soon the proposal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Sawad will be approved, so that the children of the area can get the opportunity of better education.
MP Baluni also unveiled a memorial built at a cost of Rs 14 lakh in memory of 18 freedom fighters. He said that this memorial will honor the contribution of our freedom fighters and inspire the coming generation.
Facilities will be developed in border areas
MP Baluni said that the Central and State Governments are making continuous efforts to improve the facilities in the border areas. He also informed that a plan has been made to give an opportunity to the families of martyred soldiers to have one person in government service. On this occasion, Tharali MLA Bhupal Ram Tamta demanded development of tourism facilities in Dewal block and said that there is immense tourism potential in this area, which needs to be developed in the right direction. He announced a sum of Rs 2 lakh for the successful conduct of the Sawad Fair.

The military history of Sawad village has been glorious. From here, 22 soldiers took part in the First World War, while 38 soldiers took part in the Second World War. 14 soldiers from Sawad participated in the Peshawar massacre, and 17 soldiers are remembered as freedom fighters. 28 soldiers from this village participated in the Bangladesh War of 1971, while 15 soldiers showed their bravery in Operation Bully Star. Currently 128 soldiers from Sawad village are serving in the Indian Army.
