Lok Sabha Elections 2024: During the Lok Sabha elections, an army soldier hacked the EVM of Shiv Sena leader Ambadas Danav and demanded Rs 2.5 crore to increase votes. In this case, the police have arrested an army soldier in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city of Maharashtra.
I will increase votes by hacking EVMs
The name of the accused is Maruti Dhakane and he is a resident of Pathardi in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. The 42-year-old accused had allegedly demanded money from the Shiv Sena leader to hack the electronic voting machine through the chip. He also claimed that it helped a particular candidate get more votes. Danve, leader of opposition in the state Legislative Council, lodged a written complaint against the accused with the police.
The deal was finalized for Rs 1.5 crore
Around 4 pm on Tuesday evening, the accused met Rajendra Danve, younger brother of the Sena (UBT) leader, at a hotel near the central bus stand. After negotiations, the deal was finalized for Rs 1.5 crore instead of Rs 2.5 crore. Based on the information given by Ambadas Danve, a police team in civil dress was already sent to the hotel.
The officer said that the police caught the accused when he was taking Rs 1 lakh as token money from Rajendra Danve. According to the police, the accused soldier is posted in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
Conspiracy due to huge debt
Police Commissioner Manoj Lohia said that the accused has a lot of debt. He had hatched this conspiracy to pay off his debt. He doesn't know anything about machines. We have arrested him and registered a case at Kranti Chowk police station. Another officer said a case has been registered against the accused under sections 420 (cheating) and 511 (attempt to commit offence).
