Jammu, August 22 (HS). GGM Science College Jammu hosted an informative expert talk on organ donation and transplantation organized by Career Counseling and Placement Cell and Debate and Seminar Committee in collaboration with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO). The event was aimed at educating and raising awareness about the vital importance of organ donation, the processes involved and its profound impact on saving lives.
Under the guidance of Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of the college, the programme began with a formal welcome address by Dr. Devinder Kumar Sharma, Convener, Career Counselling and Placement Cell. Anshu Sharma, Advisor, IEC Media Team of SOTTO, acted as the resource person for the talk. Sharma defined the importance of organ donation and highlighted the urgent need for more donors. He underlined the sharp gap between the high number of patients awaiting organ transplant and the limited supply of donated organs. Emphasising on the life-saving potential of organ donation, he explained how it not only prolongs life but also significantly improves the quality of life of recipients.
Addressing concerns about safety and long-term health outcomes for living donors, Sharma provided data and research-based assurance. He clarified various concepts related to deceased and living organ donors aimed at dispelling common misconceptions and misinformation. Over 100 students attended the session.
