GDCW Kathua celebrated Karva Chauth with cultural pride

Jammu, 19 October (HIST). The Department of Home Science at Government Degree College for Women (GDCW), Kathua celebrated the festival of Karva Chauth with great enthusiasm by combining cultural heritage with educational values. Held in the Home Science Laboratory, the objective of this program was to educate the students about the importance of this traditional festival as well as promote a deeper understanding of Indian culture.

Head of Home Science Department, Prof. Seema Jolly inaugurated the program by discussing the relevance of Karva Chauth in the modern society. He explained how the festival symbolizes the balance between tradition and modernity while also strengthening family bonds and the cultural fabric of India. The festival included many activities like dance, singing and mehendi competition organized by the faculty and students of the Department of Home Science. Pro. Jolly also explained in detail about the rituals and practices of Karva Chauth like fasting, applying mehendi and worshiping the Karva (earthen pot). In a special session focusing on the scientific and health aspects of fasting, students were informed about the benefits of traditional practices.

On this occasion, students displayed their artistic talent by making intricate mehndi designs. The program was attended by students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff. Dr. Babita Mahajan, Dr. Ambika, Dr. Deepshikha, Dr. Renu Gupta, Prof. Faculty members including Romika Bhasin and Dr. Surabhi were also present who contributed to the lively atmosphere of the occasion.
