Abu Dhabi T10 League controversy: In the last few years, new records have been made for washing bowlers in cricket. Many times 30 runs, 36 runs and 42 runs have been scored in one over. But all this has been seen at different times, at different places and in different tournaments. But 30 runs in just 3 balls of an over will make anyone’s ears perk up and eyes widen. If that wasn’t enough, the same over also saw a foot-long no-ball. All this happened in a match of Abu Dhabi T10 League, where this has now become a common thing and serious allegations of match fixing have started being made. Fixing and cricket have a very old relationship. Some issues keep coming up regarding fixing in cricket. Many times players make their team lose the match due to fixing. Many times players have been seen spot-fixing through no-balls, extra runs or deliberate dismissals.

Abu Dhabi T10 League has been making its mark in the shortest format of cricket for the last 4-5 years. Earlier, mostly unknown or less famous cricketers used to play in this league, but due to the increasing popularity of T20 and T10 cricket leagues across the world, now famous cricketers have also started playing in it. Batting can be seen here but the kind of bowling that has been seen has now become a joke.

Naughty batting, shameful bowling…

The latest incident happened on 25th November when the teams of Delhi Bulls and Bengal Tigers were clashing. In this match, Delhi batted first and scored 123 runs losing 6 wickets in 10 overs. Number eight batsman Nikhil Chaudhary top scored for them with 47 runs, that too in just 16 balls, which included 7 fours and 2 sixes. Out of which Nikhil scored 28 runs in a single over.

Nikhil scored these runs with the help of fours and sixes, but now let’s talk about the shocking bowling of the bowler who bowled this over. This bowler was Dasun Shanka. He spent 33 runs in this over but 30 of these came in just 3 balls. His 30 runs came from 3 legal balls and this happened because Shanka crossed all limits of bad bowling and bowled 4 no-balls with 3 legal balls in the over.

The batsman hit a four on his very first ball. The next two balls were no-balls and fours were also hit on them. The next ball i.e. the second true ball was hit for a four. Then he hit a six on the third true ball. The next ball was a no-ball but no runs were scored. After this he bowled a no ball again and hit a four. This means the image becomes something like this – 4, 4(nb), 4(nb), 4,6,(nb), 4(nb).

match fixing

Shanka again made a comeback and gave only one run each on the last 3 balls and spent 33 runs in the over. But the way his no balls were, it was even more shocking. His foot was about a foot outside the crease on the no-ball. Usually a no-ball is visible by a centimeter or two or an inch or two, but a no-ball of one foot is enough to put it in doubt. Obviously the allegations of match fixing were justified. Many fans took to social media to call it open fixing and demanded the tournament be stopped.
