Gambhir said during an event in Abu Dhabi that, I would like to become the coach of the Indian team. There is no greater honor than representing the post of coach of our national team. There is nothing greater than when you represent 140 crore Indians around the world. I will not help India win the World Cup, it is these 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup.

India's brilliant international career

Gautam Gambhir retired from international cricket on 4 December 2018. A few months later he joined the BJP. Gambhir last played for India in 2016 against England in Rajkot. Gambhir scored 4154 runs in 58 Test matches at an average of 41.95, including nine centuries.

Gambhir has scored 5,238 runs in 147 ODIs at an average of 39.68. This includes a memorable innings of 97 runs in the 2011 World Cup final, which helped India win the World Cup for the second time. He scored 11 centuries in ODIs. Gambhir also left his mark in T20 international matches. He has scored 932 runs in 37 matches at an average of 27.41 with seven half-centuries.
