
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2027) is one of the biggest gateway for the youth who dream of getting admission in M.Tech/Ph.D in the country’s top engineering and higher education institutions like IITs, IISc Bangalore, NITs and getting a Group-A level government job with attractive salary packages in leading Public Sector Companies (PSUs) like ONGC, IOCL, NTPC, BHEL, DRDO, BARC.
This year GATE 2027 examination is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). With the release of the official notification, lakhs of candidates from engineering, science and humanities backgrounds across the country have started preparing for the exam and the application process.
The biggest feature of GATE exam is that there is no maximum age limit for appearing in it, so both experienced professionals and fresh graduates alike can apply.
In terms of educational qualification, all those candidates who have completed minimum 3 or 4 year undergraduate degree program in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce or Arts are eligible. Apart from this, students currently studying in the third (3rd) or final year of their undergraduate degree course are also fully eligible for this examination. Students in the first year or beyond of Master’s degree (like M.Sc., MCA, MA) can also join.
The application fee for GATE 2027 can be deposited through online mode. The fee per test paper for female candidates, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category during the regular time limit is fixed at Rs 1000. Whereas for male candidates of General, OBC and EWS categories and foreign citizens, this fee has been fixed at Rs 2000 per paper.
If candidates apply during the extended (late fee) period, reserved category and women candidates will have to pay Rs 1500 and all other categories will have to pay Rs 2500. Students who opt for two different papers have to pay separate fees for both the papers.
GATE 2027 exam will be conducted completely in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours (180 minutes), in which a total of 65 questions will be asked and the maximum marks will be 100. The question paper is divided into two main parts – General Aptitude of 15 marks and core technical section of the concerned subject of 85 marks.
The question paper consists of three types of questions:

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): In this one correct answer has to be chosen from four options. In this, negative marking is applicable on wrong answers (1/3 marks are deducted for 1 mark question and 2/3 marks are deducted for 2 mark question).

Multiple Select Questions (MSQ): There may be more than one correct option.

Numerical Answer Type (NAT): In this, numerical values have to be entered with the help of virtual keypad. There is no negative marking of any kind in both MSQ and NAT.
GATE scorecard remains valid for the next 3 years from the date of release of result. Its main benefits are as follows:

Higher Education and Fellowship: Direct M.Tech, MS and direct Ph.D admissions are available in IITs, IISc, NITs and IIITs with attractive monthly stipends (Stipend/Scholarship) provided by the government.

Direct Jobs in PSU: Maharatna and Navratna companies like IOCL, ONGC, NTPC, HPCL, BHEL, GAIL and PGCIL recruit Executive Trainee and Management Trainee posts only on the basis of GATE score and interview without any separate written examination.

Research Organization: GATE score is also given preference for selection to scientific posts in BARC, ISRO, DRDO and CSIR labs.

Visit the official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in and click on the ‘New Registration’ link.

Generate login credentials (Enrolment ID and Password) by entering name, valid email ID and mobile number.

Login with the generated ID and enter personal information, college details, correspondence address and your qualification.

Select your preferred test paper (single or two-paper combination) and three exam cities.

Upload your passport size photograph, digital signature and category certificate (if applicable) in the prescribed size and format.

Pay the Examination Fee Through Online Net Banking, UPI, Debit/Credit Card.

After submitting the form, keep the printout of the filled application form and fee receipt safe.
