Mumbai: In February, the price of garlic in Vashi APMC wholesale market reached Rs 350 to Rs 375 per kg. But now the price of garlic has halved due to the income from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. According to traders, there is a possibility of price increase again in the near future. But now amidst the increase in the prices of other vegetables, this cut has brought relief to the housewives.
In Vashi APMC market this week, the price of desi garlic is around Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kg, while the price of big clove Ooty garlic is around Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg.
According to a market trader, garlic prices have been high for the last two months because the old stock has been sold and the new stock is green and of lesser quality, which has increased the demand for the old stock and the stock is low.
Now every day 2500 to 3000 pieces of garlic are arriving in the market in about ten vehicles. Which is double the daily intake i.e. 1500 times. Therefore, depending on the daily income, the price may vary by Rs 30 to Rs 40 per kg.
The effect of falling prices in the wholesale market was also seen in the retail market. While the price of garlic had reached Rs 500 to Rs 600 per kg in the last two months, now garlic is being sold at Rs 250 to Rs 300 per kg.
