Mirzapur, 25 April (HIST). The joint police team of Kotwali Ahraura and STF seized illegal ganja worth about Rs 45 lakh on Thursday. The team arrested two interstate ganja smugglers along with the recovered ganja and the vehicle used in smuggling.
The joint team of Ahraura Police and STF has achieved great success in the continuous action being taken against drug smugglers. Based on the information, the police team, after checking the vehicle, arrested two ganja smugglers in a truck, Ram Singh, son of Chedi Lal Singh, resident of village Jagdishpur, Jethwara district, Pratapgarh and Dharamveer Singh, son of Harendra Pal Singh, resident of village Bari Post Kichha police station Phulwatta, district Udhampur, Uttarakhand. . During the search of the truck, a total of 152 kg of illegal ganja hidden behind raw coconut was recovered.
In-charge Inspector Ahraura Brijesh Singh and Sub-Inspector Ranendra Kumar Singh, in-charge STF Field Unit Prayagraj told that the accused ganja smugglers were taking ganja from Rayagada in Orissa state to Kanpur by hiding it behind raw coconut in a truck. As per the demand from Kanpur, ganja is supplied to the surrounding districts. In connection with the arrest and recovery, a case has been registered at Ahraura police station and legal action has been taken against the arrested ganja smugglers and they have been sent to jail. The truck used in smuggling of ganja was seized.
