Mahoba, 21 August (HS). Police arrested a member of a gang that duped people of lakhs of rupees by selling fake gold jewellery on Wednesday. Rs 47,500 was recovered from his possession. Names of two other miscreants have come to light during police interrogation, police has intensified their search.
Jalil Pathan, a resident of Mahal Milkipura of the district headquarters, had told the Sadar Kotwali police in a written complaint that on July 28, unknown people came to his water plant and bought a water tanker. During this, they introduced themselves as railway contractors and told that they had found gold during the excavation of the railway line. On August 1, he gave two pearls of a necklace for examination which turned out to be real gold. After this, he took three lakh rupees on the pretext of illness and gave the necklace as security. Which later turned out to be fake on examination.
Kotwali in-charge inspector Narendra Pratap Singh said that the police team has arrested Delhi resident Jeevan Gujrati from Patha Tiraha of the district headquarters. 47 thousand 500 rupees have been recovered from him and along with this, fake jewellery weighing 1 kg 900 grams has also been recovered. The accused, while confessing to carrying out the incident, said that Kanhaiya and Shanti were also involved in the fraud with him. All of them together used to take people's trust by showing real jewellery and give them fake jewellery. The police has started searching for other accused. Bhatipura outpost in-charge Sujit Jaiswal and constable Karamveer were included in the arresting team.
