Mirzapur, June 25 (HS). June 25 was celebrated as Black Day on Tuesday in the auditorium of the district office of Bharatiya Janata Party located at Baraudha Kachhar. While presiding over the program, District Vice President Nirmala Rai welcomed and greeted the chief guest Mayor Prayagraj Ganesh Kesharwani.

The chief guest, while paying tribute to every voice raised against the Emergency (Black Day 25 June 1975), said that it was the saddest and darkest chapter in Indian democracy and politics, when the then Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi, murdered democracy in the country by imposing Emergency at midnight. The administration started putting opposition leaders in jail overnight. During the Emergency, human rights were violated, freedom of press was restricted, and the activities of political parties were banned. Elections were postponed and civil rights were abolished and arbitrariness was done. A large scale male sterilization campaign was launched under the leadership of Sanjay Gandhi, son of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.

He thanked the workers of the then Jansangh and BJP for opposing the Emergency and protecting the democratic rights. He said that the entire country celebrates 25 June as Black Day for the violation of human rights. He discussed various incidents that happened during the Emergency and paid homage to the warriors who were martyred at that time. District Panchayat Chairman Raju Kannaujiya, Nagar Palika Chairman Shyamsundar Kesari, former District Coordinator Dinesh Tiwari, Block Pramukh Indra Bahadur Pandey, Program Coordinator and District General Secretary Harishankar Singh Patel etc. also expressed their views against the Emergency. The program was conducted by former District General Secretary Ashukant Chunahe.

During this time, District General Secretary Dinesh Verma, District Vice President Amit Kumar Pandey, Hemant Tripathi, Chintamani Maurya, Lal Bahadur Saroj, CL Bind, District Media Incharge Gyan Prakash Dubey along with many other officers and workers were present.
