Sri Lanka vs India T20I: The three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka is going to be very special for Team India's new T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav. Surya has previously captained the T20 series against Australia and South Africa, but this is his first series as a full-time captain. Apart from this, his relationship with head coach Gautam Gambhir is also different. Surya has played under Gambhir's captaincy in KKR and he said that since then the relationship between him and Gambhir has been very strong. BCCI has shared a short video of Surya, in which he talks openly about captaincy and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
He starts the video in a calm tone and says, 'First I want to say that Dilip sir is shooting from there, then we should come to the other side.' After this he says, 'There is wealth, there is splendor… there is respect.'
What have you learnt from being a cricketer?
Surya said on this matter, 'I think the most important thing I have learned from this game is how humble you are, whether you have achieved a lot or when you are not performing well. I learned that when you do something on the field you have to leave it on the field. It is not your whole life, it is a part of your life, so you cannot be on top when you are performing well and you cannot go underground when you are not doing well, I feel that as a player you should not do this one thing, I am not just talking about cricket but all sports. This has helped me maintain balance in my life and if you are a good person, you will be fine.'
It always feels good to be a leader
Surya said, I always enjoy being a leader on the field, even though I am not the captain, I have learned many different things from different captains. So it feels good to be a captain and it is also a big responsibility.
What did Suryakumar Yadav say about Gautam Gambhir?
This relationship is very special, because when I went to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014, I played under his captaincy, it was special for me because from there the opportunity was created for me. It is said that you take three steps, the other person also takes two steps and meets you somewhere in the middle. So that relationship was and still everything is his and is strong but he knows how I work, what is my mindset when I come to practice, what he wants to do as a coach, I know.
