News India Live, Digital Desk: Ramayana and Mahabharata are two such epics in Indian mythological history, between which there is believed to be a gap of thousands of years. But do you know that there were some ‘Maharathis’ who were present in Treta Yuga (Ramayana) and also witnessed the fierce war of Dwapar Yuga (Mahabharata)? These warriors are considered ‘Chiranjeevi’ or endowed with divine powers. Let us know about those mythological characters who existed during the time of both the incarnations of Ram and Krishna.

1. Mahabali Hanuman (Lord Hanuman)

Everyone is familiar with the role of Hanuman, a great devotee of Lord Rama and a trouble-shooter, in Ramayana. Hanuman ji was alive even during the Mahabharata period. During the exile of the Pandavas, Bhima took the form of an old monkey to break his ego. Not only this, in the battle of Kurukshetra he was seated on the flag of Arjuna’s chariot and protected the Pandavas during the entire war.

2. Lord Parshuram

Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is seen communicating with Lakshman and Ram during Sita Swayamvar in Ramayana. At the same time, during the Mahabharata period, he was the guru of great warriors like Bhishma Pitamah, Dronacharya and Karna. He taught weapons to Bhishma and Karna, who became the mainstay of the Mahabharata war.

3. Jambavan

In Ramayana, it was Jamwant, the commander of the monkey army and his wise advisor, who reminded Hanuman ji of his powers. During the Mahabharata period, he had a war with Lord Krishna over ‘Syamantak Mani’. Later, after knowing the reality of Krishna, he married his daughter Jamwanti to Shri Krishna.

4. Sage Durvasa

Sage Durvasa, famous for his anger, is mentioned in both the epics. In Ramayana, he had predicted the future of King Dasharatha. In the Mahabharata, it was he who gave the mantra to Kunti, by which she invoked the gods and got a son. He also went to Duryodhana’s palace as a guest.

5. Mayasura

Ravana’s father-in-law and Mandodari’s father Mayan Danava were great architects of the Ramayana period. In the Mahabharata, at the time of burning of Khandava Prastha, Lord Krishna gave him life, in return for which he built the wonderful ‘Maya Sabha’ (Palace of Indraprastha) for the Pandavas.

6. Sage Markandeya

Despite being short-lived, sage Markandeya, who attained immortality by the grace of Shiva, met Lord Rama in Ramayana. During the Mahabharata period, when the Pandavas were in exile, sage Markandeya had narrated the story of Ramayana to them and explained the path of religion.

7. Vibhishana

Ravana’s younger brother Vibhishana, who followed the path of righteousness, is also blessed with the blessing of long life. After Ramayana, he was made the king of Lanka. During the Mahabharata, at the time of Yudhishthir’s Rajasuya Yagya, when Sahadev set out to conquer the south, Vibhishana had accepted the subjugation of the Pandavas and sent gifts.
