Former US President Donald Trump was attacked during an election rally. Trump was addressing a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening when a 25-year-old gunman opened fire on him. However, the bullet passed through Trump's ear and he survived safely.
Trump has now been discharged from the hospital. In his first statement after the deadly attack, Trump said that he is fine and wrote in a social media post that he was shot above his right ear. The bullet injured the ear. However, Secret Service snipers killed the shooter there.
This is not the first time that a former presidential candidate in America has been attacked. Political figures have been assassinated in America before as well. After the assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield and William McKinney in 1901, the Secret Service was entrusted with the responsibility of protecting the President of the United States.

In 1835, Richard Lawrence tried to assassinate President Jackson outside the Capitol building in America. The attack took place when he was attending a funeral. The President fired two shots at Jackson but the bullets did not hit him and he survived safely.

US President Abraham Lincoln was shot in a theater in Washington on April 14, 1865. Earlier, there were two assassination attempts on him in 1861 and 1864. After the attack, the accused was shot dead after a search operation that lasted for two weeks.

US President Garfield was shot at the Baltimore and Potomac Railway Station in Washington DC on July 2, 1881. He died on September 19, two months after the attack. Writer and lawyer Charles Guetta was convicted and sentenced to death for the president's murder.

Like Trump, Franklin D. Roosevelt was attacked at a rally in 1912. He continued speaking despite being shot at during an ongoing meeting. However, a twist of fate was that he lost the election to Woodrow Wilson and was later assassinated while still in office in 1933.

On 22 November 1963, President Kennedy was shot dead in Dallas, Texas, USA. Two days later, a hotel owner killed the accused. The accused had earlier also tried to bomb the car of US President John F. Kennedy. But their conspiracy failed.

There have been attempts to attack Trump before. During a campaign in 2016, a 20-year-old man tried to snatch a policeman's gun at a Trump rally. The latter told him that he was trying to kill Trump.
