Free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh to all citizens aged 70 years and above in the country | News India

Health care becomes very expensive in old age in the country and the insurance company also does not provide insurance after a certain age. Then the government has decided to give free health insurance up to Rs 5 lakh to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. This decision will benefit about six crore senior citizens of the country. The government has announced free health insurance of Rs 5 lakh to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave this information.

About 4.5 crore families of senior citizens will get the benefit of free health insurance of Rs five lakh. The beneficiaries of this scheme will be issued a special card under the scheme. “Senior citizens aged 70 years and above who are already covered under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY (AB PM-JAY) scheme will now get additional health insurance of Rs 5 lakh per year.”

Senior citizens aged 70 years and above having a private health insurance policy or the Employees' State Insurance Scheme will also benefit from the AB PM-JAY scheme. It also said that beneficiaries of other government health insurance schemes such as the Central Government Health Scheme, Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme and Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will be able to opt for either their current scheme or AB PM-JAY. Senior citizens aged 70 years and above who belong to families already covered under AB PM-JAY can avail a benefit of Rs.

An additional top-up cover of Rs 5 lakh will be available, which they cannot share with other family members. The BJP had promised in its Lok Sabha election manifesto that it would expand the Ayushman Bharat scheme to include senior citizens aged 70 years and above. Apart from this, the Union Cabinet has also taken five other major decisions. This includes approval of amendments to the budgetary support scheme for enabling infrastructure for hydropower projects, as well as the PM-eBus Service-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme for the purchase and operation of e-buses by public transport authorities. Most people in India cannot buy private health insurance at their own expense and if senior citizens go to buy insurance for themselves, it is very expensive due to which people are not even able to pay the insurance premium. In such a situation, at least senior citizens who are above 70 years of age will not have to worry about treatment up to Rs 5 lakh.
