Often many people become victims of online fraud. Scammers commit online fraud by changing the SIM card. However, now the government is directly blocking the mobile phones of fraudsters as well as their SIM cards. TRAI has tightened action against people who cheat mobile users by sending messages. In which the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has started blocking handsets involved in such activities apart from disconnecting mobile numbers.
It is noteworthy that Chakshu portal has been launched by the government for complaints related to online fraud. After the launch of this portal, fifty-two places sending fraudulent SMS have been blacklisted. Also 348 mobile handsets have been blocked. Apart from this, 10,834 suspicious mobile numbers were sent for verification. Verification of all these mobile numbers was to be done by April 30. Since then these numbers have been blocked.
According to the report, DoT has blocked 1.58 lakh mobile devices seized on the basis of fake documents. Not only this, DoT had disconnected a total of 1.66 crore mobile connections till April 30 this year. Thus, DoT has tightened its grip against online fraudsters.
