The Gujarat government has constituted the fourth State Finance Commission (SFC) and handed over its command to Bharatiya Janata Party leader Yamal Vyas. The state government gave this information in a notification issued on Monday. The 4th SFC of Gujarat has been constituted after a gap of almost 9 years. The tenure of the third State Finance Commission headed by Bharat Gariwala ended in 2015.
Know about Yamal Vyas
Vyas, who has been appointed chairman of the fourth State Finance Commission, is the main spokesperson of the ruling BJP in Gujarat. He is a Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary by profession and has almost four decades of experience in this field. He was also a full-time member of the 3rd SFC between 2011–2015. He has also served as an independent director on the boards of various state public undertakings. A notification issued by Gujarat Chief Secretary Raj Kumar informed about the formation of the fourth State Finance Commission under the chairmanship of Yamalbhai Vyas.
Members of 16th Finance Commission visited Gujarat
The 16th Finance Commission headed by Arvind Panagariya had visited Gujarat last month. At that time the state government had demanded to increase the share of the states in the 'Tax Division Section' from 41 percent to 50 percent. A delegation of the opposition Congress raised the issue of delay in formation of state finance commissions in a meeting with the Central Finance Commission. Congress had said that Gujarat should have appointed the seventh State Finance Commission by now.
