Dehradun, 14 November (HS). Four vehicles, including a container coming from behind, collided with each other due to sudden brake jamming of a pickup vehicle near the check post in Asharodi on Wednesday night. In the accident, the pickup driver died on the spot while four other people including his son were injured. The container driver absconded after the accident.

Actually, Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Bangadi, Saharanpur, was coming to Dehradun with his son Sudhanshu after loading white kadu (raw petha) on a pickup vehicle. As soon as he reached Asharodi late on Wednesday night, the brakes of his vehicle pickup suddenly jammed near the check post. Due to the sudden stop of the pickup vehicle, the truck and car coming from behind collided with each other. Meanwhile, the speeding container coming towards Dehradun also collided with the pickup, hitting everyone. Due to this the pickup and truck overturned into a pit below the road. In the accident, pickup driver Sukhdev died on the spot and his son Sudhanshu, who was sitting next to him, was seriously injured. A PRD jawan along with GST department employees Suman Das and Naveen Mehar standing there were also injured when the container collided with the barrier. The police reached the spot with the help of local people and took the injured to the hospital and took out Sukhdev’s body from the pickup. Due to the accident, traffic was affected for a long time. Area residents also blamed the barrier installed at the check post as the reason for the accident. GST department officials say that there were no officials there at the time of the accident. In such a situation, no checking was going on nor was any vehicle stopped. Some employees were deployed at the check post.
