New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he wants to create many Singapores in India. He said this during a bilateral meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Thursday. The two leaders decided to upgrade the existing strategic partnership between India and Singapore to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

This is the second country in the Indo-Pacific region in three weeks with which India has upgraded the status of its relations. A similar agreement was signed between India and Malaysia last fortnight on 20 August 2024. This means that India should cooperate with these countries to protect each other's interests in areas like defense, trade, military, communications. Four important agreements have also been signed between the two countries under the leadership of Modi and Wong.
After his visit to Brunei, PM Modi arrived in Singapore on Wednesday. On Thursday, he met Prime Minister Wong and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. While official talks were held under the leadership of the Prime Ministers of both countries.

The group has prepared a roadmap of cooperation in four areas which has been signed. Later, in a joint statement issued by both the countries, it was said that PM Modi and PM Wong supported further enhancing the already strong defense relations. Along with this, instructions have been given to complete the talks soon on amendment in the economic agreement (CIPA) signed between the two countries in the year 2016.
