Ranchi, 05 July (HS). Ranchi's Kotwali police station has arrested a jeweler along with three accused in the case of snatching gold chain from the neck of CID DSP Sarita Murmu. 11 thousand 500 rupees cash and a gold chain have been recovered from them.
The arrested accused include Farhan Ansari, resident of Lower Bazaar police station, Mohd. Zahid Khan, Rajesh Soni, resident of Lalpur police station and jeweler Mukesh Kumar. SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha told in a press conference on Friday that on June 25, two bike riders escaped after snatching the gold chain from the neck of the CID DSP near Kachhari Chowk in Kotwali police station area. In view of the seriousness of the case, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed under the leadership of Kotwali DSP Prakash Soy.
SSP said that during the investigation, the team arrested two criminals, Farhan Ansari and Mohd. Zahid Khan. A total of Rs. 11,500 received from selling the stolen chains was recovered and seized from them. Both of them confessed to the crime and told that the stolen gold chains were sold by them to Ajay Verma and Mukesh Kumar, owners of Vijay Jewelers of Kanta Toli.
Police arrested Rajesh Soni and Mukesh Kumar in the case of buying stolen jewellery. The stolen gold chain was also recovered. Raids are being conducted to arrest absconding accused Ajay Verma. SSP said that criminal cases are already registered against Farhan and Mohd. Zahid.
