Kanker, August 26 (HS). After receiving a complaint to the Food and Revenue Department about huge amount of PDS rice being embezzled every month in the district, SDM Ashok Kumar Marble conducted a surprise raid on Monday and during the investigation, 11.50 quintals (23 sacks) of fortified coarse rice meant for distribution to the BPL category i.e. the poor under the PDS scheme was found. Along with this, gram provided by the government was found in seven sacks. The SDM has directed the Food Controller Kanker to lodge an FIR in the police station against the proprietor of that shop under the Essential Commodities Act 1955.
A joint team of revenue, police and food officials, based on information, raided in front of Krishi Mandi Annapurna Para at KGN rice shop where PDS rice is bought and sold. 11.50 quintals (23 bags) of fortified coarse rice, which is distributed to the BPL category i.e. the poor under the PDS scheme, was found there. Along with this, gram provided by the government was found in seven bags. In some bags, gram was also found in packets. The Food Department has warned that action will be taken against those who sell ration rice illegally, the ration cards of such people will be cancelled.
