Damascus: Former President Bashar al-Assad has been missing since rebels seized power in Syria. No details of his whereabouts are available. President Assad fled by plane with his family after rebels entered the capital, Damascus, according to local media reports. At this point the aircraft either crashed or were shot down by rebels. However, according to sources, the plane that left from Damascus airport was heading towards the coastal area. However, during the flight the aircraft suddenly changed direction and went in the opposite direction. However, the aircraft disappeared from radar within a few minutes. The plane’s final location was near the rebel-held city of Homs. According to flight data, the aircraft’s altitude suddenly dropped from 3,650 meters to 1,070 meters before disappearing from radar. What happened to this plane, how many people and who were on board, is still not clear. According to some reports, Bashar al-Assad’s plane was heading towards Russia-controlled Latakia airbase. There is a suspicion that Assad fled from there to Russia.
