Former MP Dhananjay Singh sent to Bareilly jail

Jaunpur, 27 April (HIST) (Update). The commotion intensified in the district jail on Saturday morning when former BSP MP strongman Dhananjay Singh was suddenly taken out of the district jail and started shifting him to another jail. As soon as the news of the former MP being shifted to another jail was received, his supporters reached the district jail.

Bahubali Dhananjay Singh was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by the Jaunpur court on March 06 in a kidnapping and extortion case. Since then he was lodged in the district jail. On Saturday morning, he was taken out of the district jail and sent to Bareilly District Jail via ambulance. However, no statement has yet been issued by the jail administration regarding the reasons for which he has been transferred.

In this matter, Jail Superintendent SK Pandey said that work is being done as per the wishes of the government. The order to transfer the jail had come only on Thursday evening, it was implemented on Saturday morning.

It is noteworthy that Abhinav Singhal, manager of the ongoing Namami Gange project in the district, had filed a complaint against Dhananjay Singh at Line Bazar police station. It was alleged that Dhananjay Singh had demanded extortion from him. He was also kidnapped and brought to his residence. In this case, the top court of the district had sentenced the former MP to seven years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 thousand. He had filed an appeal in the High Court, the decision in the case was to come today. In such a situation, his sudden transfer to Bareilly Jail has been taken by the district administration and government in view of the nomination for Lok Sabha elections starting from 29th April. Dhananjay Singh's wife and District Panchayat President Shrikala Dhananjay Singh is the Lok Sabha Sadar candidate from Bahujan Samaj Party.
