Kishanganj, 08 August (HS). Under the Mahananda Basin Project, a 199.5 kilometer embankment dam is to be constructed on both sides of Nagar, Mahananda and Ratwa rivers under Mahananda Basin Phase-02. The tender for which has also been done and land acquisition process is being done for the construction of the dam. But there is resentment among the local people regarding the alignment of the dam. Because at some places the alignment of the dam is two kilometers away from the river and at some places the alignment is 20 meters away, due to which many villages come within the alignment of the dam.
In such a situation, there is a danger of the said villages getting submerged during floods. The villagers are protesting over this. To solve the said problem, the popular former MLA of Kochadhaman and JDU district president Mujahid Alam met the departmental minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary in his office and handed over a memorandum of demands. The minister said that to solve the said problem, a high-level technical team will soon inspect the site and give its opinion for solving the said problem. Thereafter, the department will try to remove the apprehensions of the villagers.
Mahananda Basin Project is the only permanent solution to prevent river erosion and flood in Seemanchal. This work is to be completed in a total of five phases. Phase-01 work has been completed and Phase-02 tender has been done. Apart from this, the former MLA has demanded from the Minister of Water Resources Department to develop Sheetal Nagar Lake or Deramari Lake in Kochadhaman block of the district on the lines of 'Mithila Haat' built in Araria Sangram of Madhubani district on the lines of Surjapuri Haat. So that tourism is promoted in the district.
