Chandigarh, 23 October (HS). In a major success in the ongoing war against drugs, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Punjab Police on Wednesday arrested former MLA Satkar Kaur and her nephew near Sunny Enclave in Kharar when they were found in possession of 100 grams of marijuana. Were smuggling heroin.
Director General of Police (IGP) Headquarters Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the arrested accused (nephew) has been identified as Jaskirat Singh, resident of Behbal Khurd village of Firozpur and currently lives in the house of the former MLA. Accused Jaskirat was driving the car, while the former MLA was sitting next to him. Accused Satkar Kaur was MLA from Firozpur Rural seat from 2017-2022.
Later, police teams recovered 28 grams more heroin from the former MLA's house, taking the total quantity of heroin recovered to 128 grams. Apart from this, four vehicles including Toyota Fortuner, BMW, Hyundai Verna and Chevrolet were also seized.
Addressing the media, IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the ANTF teams had received information from a reliable source that he was purchasing drugs from former MLA Satkar Kaur. He said the source also provided sufficient evidence to the police teams, including some mobile numbers and call recordings, which indicated the former MLA's involvement in drug trafficking.
Acting on a tip-off, a sting operation was planned and a fictitious customer having a transaction with the former MLA was sent to a pre-determined location near a kiosk near Sunny Enclave to execute the transaction. He said that while he (the customer) was receiving the delivery of medicines, STF teams immediately intervened and nabbed the two persons who tried unsuccessfully to flee from the spot. A policeman was also injured during the operation when the accused driver tried to run him over. He said that investigation is going on to add further links in this case and more arrests are likely to be made in the coming days. In this regard FIR no. 159 dated 23/10/2024 has been registered by NDPS at Police Station Special Task Force (ANTF), SAS Nagar under sections 21 and 29 of the Act.
