Former Maharashtra CM and senior Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi has passed away. He breathed his last at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted after suffering a heart attack. On February 21, Manohar Joshi's health deteriorated and he was admitted to the hospital. A team of doctors was continuously monitoring his health but he breathed his last at 3.02 am today.
The mortal remains of Manohar Joshi will be kept for last darshan at his present residence Ruparel College, Matunga West from 11 am to 2 pm. He will be cremated with state honors at Dadar cremation ground.
Manohar Joshi, who was active in politics for almost 5 decades, was also the Chief Minister of the state. His political career began as a councilor of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, after which he became Mayor, Member of the Legislative Council, MLA in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister and later Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Originally from Beed, Maharashtra, Manohar Joshi was born on 2 December 1937 in Nandagi village of Raigarh district. He joined RSS and then joined Shiv Sena. First elected as a councilor and then as a member of the Legislative Council for the first time in the 70s. Manohar Joshi became the Chief Minister on 14 March 1995 and remained in this post till 31 January 1999. Thus, Manohar Joshi remained in office for 3 years and 323 days but could not complete the tenure of 5 years.
