It is noteworthy that in the 2022 assembly elections, BJP had fielded Rakesh Chaudhary as its candidate but he lost the election to Sudhir Sharma of Congress. After this, this time also he had full hope of getting ticket from BJP in the by-election, but Rakesh Choudhary resigned from BJP after BJP made Sudhir Sharma, who had joined BJP from Congress, as its candidate. After this, he was trying to contest the by-elections in collaboration with the Congress party people but he did not get a place in the Congress either.

After a long tussle, former Mayor and Congress General Secretary Devendra Jaggi, who was the Chief Minister's first choice, was made the Congress candidate from Dharamshala.
