Former ambassador and BJP leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu gets Y+ security, BJP candidate from Amritsar

Chandigarh: The central government has provided 'Y Plus' security to former Indian Ambassador to the US and recent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Taranjit Singh Sanghu.

According to the information, Taranjeet has been provided 'Y+ Escort' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover. As per the order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Sandhu has been provided security cover for the entire country. The Home Ministry has decided to increase the security of Sandhu on the basis of the threat analysis report received from the Intelligence Bureau.

Sandhu joined BJP last month

Sandhu took membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party last month, joining an exclusive club of former ambassadors who entered politics under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. Like him, Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and S Jaishankar are also former ambassadors.

Sandhu is the grandson of 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer and former Congress leader and founding member of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SJPS) Teja Singh Samani. After retiring on 1 February, Sandhu became active in social activities in Amritsar after his grandfather's birthday on 23 February. Due to which speculations about his entry into politics have intensified.
