Kokrajhar (Assam), 08 October (Hindustan Reporter). Formal distribution of financial assistance to Durga Puja committees of Kokrajhar district was done today at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar. In this program, demand drafts were formally provided to a total of 10 puja committees. It is noteworthy that 112 puja committees of Kokrajhar district, 33 committees of Parbatjhora and 69 committees of Gosaigaon will receive financial assistance under this initiative.
The event was attended by several eminent guests, including Handloom and Textiles Minister of Assam and Kokrajhar Guardian Minister UG Brahm, MLA Lawrence Islari and Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Masanda Magdalene Partin, who jointly distributed the financial assistance.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Brahm urged the puja committees to ensure peaceful and disciplined celebrations, and also stressed the importance of safety and goodwill. He also stressed the need to maintain cleanliness during puja.
MLA Lawrence Islari expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for starting this initiative. He expressed hope that the Durga Puja pandals will be well-groomed and responsibly managed during the coming festivities.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Masanda Partin in her address appreciated the initiative and praised the participation of the puja committees. He underlined the importance of maintaining discipline during the festivities and took the opportunity to spread awareness about the government's road safety initiatives.
After the distribution ceremony, an awareness meeting was organized to promote road safety measures under “Path Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha”, an initiative of the Transport Department of Government of Assam, under the State Road Safety Week 2024.
