Foreign Ministry confirms preparation for Modi-Putin summit

New Delhi, June 28 (HS). The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday confirmed that preparations are being made for a summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, the date of the summit has not been announced yet.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a press briefing on Friday that holding summit talks between India and Russia is a regular process. So far, summit talks have been held 21 times.

The spokesperson said that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent India at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit to be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. This summit will be held on 3 and 4 July.

The Russian President's office has also confirmed the holding of the summit meeting between Modi and Putin. According to diplomatic sources, the summit between the two leaders will be held on July 8. An agreement related to defence cooperation between the two countries may be reached in this meeting.
