Colombo: Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam-Jaishankar have reached Colombo today. There they are going to try to further strengthen bilateral relations and strengthen economic and political ties. But the main thing is that it is only 20 km from India's land. The Kutch-Thivu island of just 1.9 square km in the distant Palkani Sea will become an island. This island was gifted to Sri Lanka by the then Central Congress government in 1974. This island is very small but its strategic importance is very high as it is located at the entrance of the Palkani Strait.
Apart from this, he will also hold talks with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry and Sri Lankan President Renil Wickremesinghe. However, Ali Sabry had earlier said that the decision regarding Kutch-Thevu island has been taken decades ago, so there is no need to discuss it further.
Jaishankar will also discuss India's SAGAR policy during his Colombo visit. According to this policy, there is an effort to tie the countries located in the Indian Ocean and the coastal areas of the Indian Ocean together. The full form of this SAGAR policy is as follows. “Security and Growth for All in the Region”
The important thing is that China is occupying the Indian Ocean. So they decided to set up a base in Hambartota, a natural barren place in the south of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was under the burden of Chinese taxes, so they had to allow it to do so. They also cannot forget the help given by India during their severe economic crisis and the tsunami before that. So they found a new way by banning any foreign power from setting up a base in Sri Lanka for 1 year. Jaishankar can also present a settlement plan regarding Kachcha Theevu.
Sri Lankan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Bala Suriya and Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thodam were welcomed at the Jaishankar airport.
