Sources claimed that President Zardari will declare Asifa Bhutto as the first lady of Pakistan. ARY News reported that after the official announcement, Asifa Bhutto Zardari will be given protocols and privileges befitting a First Lady. The decision is particularly notable as Asifa Bhutto is set to become the first daughter of a sitting president to become first lady.

On Sunday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari was sworn in as the 14th President of Pakistan and officially took charge as the head of state for the second time.

Apart from military chiefs, Zardari is the only civilian candidate to be elected president of the country for a second term. Before this, he had been the President of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, Zardari on Saturday secured 411 electoral votes to defeat his rival and Pashtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who got only 181 votes.

Zardari completes five-year constitutional term

Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa administered the oath to Zardari at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Islamabad today. Apart from newly elected Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former President Arif Alvi, Army Chief General Asim Munir, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were also present with him.

According to Dawn, Zardari is one of the four democratically elected presidents who have completed their five-year constitutional term.
