Mumbai – India’s first Made in India surgical robot performed surgery in Pune, Maharashtra. The robot has received approval from India’s regulatory body, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO). The first Indian-made surgical robotic system was installed at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute in New Delhi. After this, this system has also been implemented in Hyderabad and Raipur. This is the first time such a surgery has been performed in Maharashtra.
This robotic surgery is actually a complex structure of three separate systems. The robot also has five slender robotic arms, an immersive 3D headset that provides surgeons with optics, and a VisionCart for precise and controlled surgery, which provides 3D 4K (4K) imaging to the surgical team.
According to doctors, this robotic system can be used for many life-saving operations including general surgery, cardio-thoracic, urology, gynecology and many other complex surgical procedures. In Pune, the system performed a robotic right extended hemicolectomy procedure on a patient suffering from colon carcinoma. Treatment with this robotic method makes surgery possible with fewer incisions and less resources. Precision and flexibility are also achieved during treatment compared to traditional laparoscopic or open surgery, and the patient can resume his normal routine very soon.
