LocusBha Elections 2024: Congress, which is facing defeat twice in a row, is going to field the least number of candidates to win the Lok Sabha elections 2024. For the first time in history, Congress will field its candidates on about 330 seats. Congress has replied that this is not our weakness but our strategy.
Referring to the 20 years old 2004 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that even then we had contested the elections in alliance. And even then he was contesting elections from the lowest number of seats in history. Still we left seats for our allies and when the results came, the government changed.
Congress will contest elections with the least number of candidates in history
In 2004, Congress won 417 seats by fielding its candidates. But in comparison, the figure for 2024 is very less. Candidates filed nominations for 440 seats in 2009 and 464 seats in 2014. However, the latter contested 421 seats in 2019.
Due to this the seats have reduced
Giving clarification, Jairam Ramesh said that we are compromising on seats with our allies in big states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bengal. If you remember what I said, 2024 will also be like 2004. We have deliberately reduced the seats. We want to form an effective alliance. Congress and India alliance will get a clear majority in this election. After the elections, there will be no need for any party or NDA's losing allies.
Congress admitted: dominance in big states reduced
After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, Congress has admitted that it has suffered a major setback. Its dominance has reduced in big states like Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bengal, Bihar. In such a situation, we are making more seats available through strong regional cooperation. The parties which are in a stronger position than BJP. About 40 percent of the Lok Sabha seats are from these states.
