PM Modi will meet unions of government employees: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman talked about the National Pension System (NPS) reforms in the Union Budget. She did not even mention the 'old pension'. Then, in response to a question asked in Parliament, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said, 'No proposal to re-implement the old pension scheme for employees is under consideration of the Central Government.' The employees were disappointed about this. Now before the assembly elections in both the states, Prime Minister Modi will hold a meeting with the representatives of the Staff Side National Council (JCM) on Saturday (August 24).

This is the first time in 10 years that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called the leaders of employee organizations for discussion. Many other issues related to the interests of employees are also expected to be discussed in this meeting to be held at the PM residence.

Old pension scheme may be discussed

After the Lok Sabha elections, the attitude of the NDA government seems to have changed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the employee leaders of the central government for the first time. The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) may be discussed in this meeting. General Secretary of All India Defense Employees Federation (AIDEF) and National Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) C. Srikumar said after presenting the Union Budget, 'The Union Budget has failed to meet the expectations of government employees and pensioners. The Supreme Court has clearly ruled that pension is not a reward, pension is not an ex-gratia, pension is not something that is given at the will of the employer. It is the fundamental right of every government employee. The government, which is expected to be an ideal employer, is now not even respecting the decision of the Supreme Court.'

“While the central and state government employees are struggling for the restoration of the old pension scheme, the finance minister has not announced any OPS related to government employees in the budget. The only announcement he made was about the reforms to be made in the NPS,” said C. Srikumar, general secretary of AIDEF and national secretary of AITUC. “Government employees and pensioners are completely disappointed as there is no announcement regarding pension in the Union Budget.”

Let us tell you that more than 15 lakh employees of the Government of India come under NPS. The government has rejected their demand to restore the old pension scheme. The employees of the central government will not accept the injustice done to them. They will fight to get back the right to pension. Employees in Haryana have been agitating for a long time regarding the old pension scheme.
