Uruguayan football star Luis Suarez has announced his retirement from international football. He has been his country's top goal scorer. Uruguay's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on September 6 will be his last international match. Suarez played 142 matches and scored 69 goals in a career spanning 17 years.
He made his debut in the team's 3-1 win over Colombia on 8 February 2007. He and Diego Forlan helped Uruguay reach the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He has played in four World Cups and five Copa America tournaments for Uruguay. He continues to play at the club level.
In the match between Italy and Uruguay in the 2014 World Cup, Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini and he still has teeth marks on his hand.
