Jaipur, July 12 (HS). The demand for student union elections is increasing. On Friday, students took out a march in Rajasthan University and protested against this. During this, the police closed the main gate to stop the protesting students. The protesting students climbed the main gate and tried to go to JLN Marg. The police chased them away by using mild force. Four protesting students have been taken into custody.
It is worth noting that the protest is increasing in the state demanding to reinstate the student union elections in Rajasthan. From the assembly to the road, from student leaders to MLAs and MPs, everyone is demanding to reinstate the student union elections in Rajasthan once again. Former student union officials of various universities of the state including Rajasthan University have also written letters to the government regarding this. But no positive decision has been taken so far. After this, now the common students have come on the road and started a movement against the government.
Along with the common student leaders in Rajasthan, Gyan Singh Chaudhary, Hukum Singh, Kalicharan Saraf, Hanuman Beniwal, Jitendra Shrimali, Ranveer Singh Gudha, Pushpendra Bhardwaj, Ashok Lahoti, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Rajendra Singh Rathore, Rajkumar Sharma, Akhil Shukla, Manish Yadav, Anil Chopra, Kanaram Jat, Ankit Dhayal, Vinod Jakhar have written a letter to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma demanding to hold student union elections again. The last student union elections were held in 2022. There was a lot of ruckus and uproar during the 2005 student union elections in Rajasthan. After this, a PIL was filed in the High Court. In the year 2006, the court had banned the student union elections. After this, the student union elections started once again in the year 2010. In the year 2020 and 2021 also, student union elections could not be held due to corona infection. The government had decided to hold student union elections again on 29 July 2022. But on 12 August last year, the Congress government had decided to cancel the student union elections. Since then, elections have not been held in the university.
