Lakhimpur Kheri, 05 October (Hindustan Reporter). In the last month, samples of loose buckwheat flour collected by the departmental team during enforcement action from various food establishments in the state have been found unsafe for human consumption in the tests. In view of this, a ban has been imposed on the sale of loose buckwheat flour in the district.

Assistant Commissioner (Food)-Second Food Safety and Drug Administration Brijendra Sharma said that due to the presence of aflatoxin in buckwheat flour samples, it is dangerous for human life and its consumption can cause serious damage to human health on a large scale. In the last several months, incidents of food poisoning have occurred in many districts of the state due to consumption of food items made from loose buckwheat flour. To prevent the recurrence of such incidents, the Food Safety and Drug Administration, in public interest and in view of the health of the general public, using the powers granted in Section 36 (3) (B) of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, has opened Kuttu in the entire district until further orders. Storage/distribution/sale of wheat flour is prohibited/restricted.
