Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested four people, including an assistant director of the Regional Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in Mumbai in a corruption case. CBI took this action in a case of demanding a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh for clearing the pending bills of a private company.
The food safety officer has been identified as Amol Jagtap, while others include Vikas Bhardwaj, director of an analytical laboratory and another officer Harshal Chogule as well as Gurunath Dubule. When these people were produced in the court, they were sent to police custody till 8 May.
In this context, according to CBI sources, accused Jagtap was involved in illegal activities and corruption in demanding and accepting bribes from food business operators. While the lab officials were working on analyzing and reporting various food samples sent by FSSAI.
After CBI received the complaint, a trap meeting was held at Vashi railway station. Here the accused were caught by the CBI team. After this, raids were conducted at the office and residence of the accused and Rs 37.3 lakh in cash, 45 grams of gold and other important documents were seized.
