Folk song singer Padmashree Ajita Srivastava passes away | News India

Mirzapur, 18 August (HS). Famous folk singer Ajita Srivastava, 70 years old, died on Saturday evening at her residence in Awas Vikas Colony. She was ill for a few months.

Ajita Srivastava was born in Varanasi district. She did her post graduation from Banaras Hindu University, B.Ed from Gorakhpur University and mastered music by doing Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti. Currently, she has retired from the post of lecturer in Arya Kanya Inter College. She made an incomparable contribution in the field of literature.

Ajita Srivastava has been a top class singer of Bhojpuri folk music of Akashvani Varanasi. She has performed in Lucknow Doordarshan, Sanskrit Department, Sangeet Natak Academy Uttar Pradesh, Central Zone Cultural Center, Information Department, Tourism Department, Indian Council for Cultural Relations and T-Series Company. Along with the Academy Award in the field of folk singing in 2017 by the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy, she has been awarded Padma Shri in 2022.

She made Mirzapur famous in the entire country. Her demise is an irreparable loss for the art world and the district.
