New Delhi, 29 November (HS). Union Home Minister Amit Shah said at the 59th All India Director General of Police-Inspector General of Police (DG-IGP) Conference in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on Friday that the focus should be on issues like emerging security challenges on the country’s eastern borders, migration and trends in urban policing. .
After inaugurating the three-day conference, the Union Home Minister presented police medals for excellent service to the officers of the Intelligence Bureau and also released the book ‘Ranking of Police Stations 2024’ of the Union Home Ministry. He also honored the three best police stations of the country by presenting them trophies.
In his inaugural address, the Union Home Minister congratulated the police leadership for the peaceful conduct of the 2024 general elections and the uninterrupted implementation of the 3 new criminal laws. The Union Home Minister expressed satisfaction over important achievements like improvement in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, North East and Left Wing Extremism affected areas.
Amit Shah said that with the 3 new criminal laws, India’s criminal justice system, which was earlier punishment-centric, has become justice-centric. He said that the basic spirit of these new laws is inspired by Indian tradition.
The Union Home Minister said that the role of security institutions is very important in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making India a fully developed nation by the year 2047 and the world’s third largest economy by 2027. The Home Minister said that the focus should be on issues like emerging security challenges on the country’s eastern borders, trends in immigration and urban policing. Amit Shah called for taking initiative towards zero tolerance strategy and zero tolerance action for the implementation of zero tolerance policy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the conference during the next two days. The conference is being held in hybrid mode and was attended by police chiefs and heads of CAPFs and CPOs from all states and union territories. Also, many police officers from across the country are participating in this conference virtually. National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home and Union Home Secretary also participated in the discussions held today.
At the conference, the country’s top police leadership will prepare a blueprint to deal with existing and emerging national security challenges, including left-wing extremism, coastal security, narcotics, cyber crime and economic security. Along with this, the progress of implementation of three new criminal laws and best practices related to policing will also be reviewed.
