The weather is pleasant in Delhi-NCR today. It was raining since morning and in the afternoon it rained with cold wind. In such a situation, monsoon clouds are raining in some states and people are getting relief from the humid heat. At the same time, it is raining like death in the hilly states.
Yes, in the last 10 days, monsoon rains have caused massive destruction in 3 states – Kerala, Himachal and Uttarakhand. The first landslide occurred in Wayanad, Kerala. Then there was a landslide on the highway in Uttarakhand. After this, clouds burst in Himachal. Nature wreaked such havoc in all three states that people lost their lives. Thousands of people became homeless. Rescue operations are ongoing.
Kedarnath Yatra has been stopped in Uttarakhand
Let us tell you that there was heavy rain in Uttarakhand on the night of August 1. Due to which incidents of landslides and cloudbursts occurred. Due to the landslide, there was a sudden flood in Lincholi and Bhimbli of Kedarnath area and the roads were blocked. About 5000 people have been rescued.
The Indian Air Force has come to the rescue. Chinook, MI-17 have been deployed for rescue operations. Three army tankers are engaged in rescue operations. NDRF teams are deployed across the state. The help of 7 helicopters was also taken. A total of 16 people have lost their lives due to the disaster in Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Nainital of Uttarakhand.
More than 45 people missing in Himachal Pradesh
In Himachal Pradesh too, clouds burst at 5 places due to heavy rains on August 1. Nature wreaked havoc in Sama in Shimla, Rajban village of Chauharghati in Mandi and Bagipul in Kullu. Due to cloudburst, heavy mud and stones came out of the water. About 55 people were missing, out of which bodies of 7 people have been recovered. More than 45 are still missing. NDRF, SDRF, Police, Home Guard personnel are conducting search operations.
8 school children are missing in Samaj village of Shimla. Three houses collapsed in Rajban village. Bodies of 5 people from 3 families living in these houses have been found and 5 people are still missing. In Bagipul also, 5 people of the same family got buried under the debris. 2 others also got washed away. Out of all the 7 missing people, bodies of 2 have been recovered. Chief Minister Sukhu has appealed to the people to stay in their homes.
The situation is very bad in Wayanad, Kerala
Wayanad in Kerala has suffered more damage than Himachal and Uttarakhand. A massive landslide occurred in Wayanad on the night of 29-30 July. 4 villages Mundakkai, Churamala, Attmala, Noolpuzha collapsed under debris filled with water and mud. NDRF, SDRF, NGOs, Police, Home Guard, Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force are engaged in rescue operations. More than 300 bodies have been recovered so far. More than 100 people are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
More than 200 people are reported missing. Major General VT Mathew, General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army, is leading the rescue operation. The area has been divided into 6 zones to search for bodies with the help of dog squads, as no one is expected to be alive after 4 days. According to Kerala Revenue Minister K Rajan, more than 9 thousand people have been rescued and sent to safe places in 4 days.
